1. Ziplock - Saba
Saba has been on a run recently dropping 2 single packs since the end of last year. With his most recent one, the Chicago lyricist is in album mode and we have enjoyed every second of Ziplock and Rich Don't Stop. Not having dropped a full length project since his 2018 breakout CARE FOR ME, we are at the edge of our seats to see what Saba does next.
2. Overall (feat. Chinx) - Benny the Butcher & Harry Fraud
The Butcher here too rule 2021 just like he did in 2020. The highly anticipated collaboration with legendary producer Harry Fraud did not disappoint. The Plugs I Met 2 is 9 heavy hitting songs that sees the pair at the height of their game. This track enlists the late great Chinx and the two float over Fraud's signature style. This project perfectly followed up his highly acclaimed 2020 album Burden of Proof and the industry can't wait to see what the Buffalo rapper has in his future.
3. Like a Good Old Friend - Vegyn
The London producer is back at it again filling our ears with experimental sounds that leave us in wonderment. His new EP Like a Good Old Friend is a 6 track journey and the title track is a perfect composition to zone out and enjoy life. The Frank Ocean collaborator is supremely talented and continues to grow with every realease.
4. No Drama - Jvck James
Jvck James is an up and coming East London soul singer that impresses us every time he puts out new music. This recent release is a 6 song project where he flexes his vocal range. Heavily influenced by 90s R&B, this track sees him sing over a fun beat and has all the makings of a hit. We hope his first full length project is on the horizon.
5. AIN'T GON STOP ME - reggie, Monte Booker & Kenny Beats
Once these three started teasing this song we were hooked. Two of our favorite producers in the game and an up and coming vocalist that hasn't missed yet. Over a flipped 70s style beat, reggie provides vocals that stand out over the backdrop that Monte and Kenny provide. We eagerly await more from the prolific artist.
6. Self! - Isaia Huron
Another star in the making is Isaia Huron. The Nashville singer has such a unique sound that you know it's him within seconds of a record playing. This song Self! is a beautiful sonic journey that sees him sing over a upbeat alternative instrumental. We highly recommend checking out his 7 song project Libbie that he dropped in 2020 to get familiar.
7. Buckle Up (feat. Soweto Kinch) - Nubiyan Twist
This jazz, soul, funk etc. act blends all genres together to make a sound that is so lucid you won't know what hit you. The British band has all the talent in the world and makes everything in house. They collaborate with Soweto Kinch who provides a powerful verse that displays his lyricism to full effect. Enjoy this project they released this year which will be in the conversation for best of the year.
8. PlayStation (feat. Buddy) - Guapdad 4000 & !llmind
Whenever Guapdad and Buddy link it's something special and this track right here is no exception. Guapdad has consistently been putting out heat and his 2021 project 1176 which sees him collaborate with decorated producer !llmind is one of the best. The sounds mix together so well this is going to be a 2021 hit you hear at all cookouts.
9. Lighters (feat. Dayzha Jefferson) - Dior Worthy
Dior Worthy is on his way to becoming a heavy hitter in the hip hop industry. His sound is raw and mixes many different genres such as soul, rock, and gospel. His lyrics touch the soul and this track is a perfect example of what makes him so prolific as a lyricist. His 2019 project Soda is a great introduction to who he is as an artist and we are excited to see what he has in store for us this year.
10. Snakes X Elephants - Fana Hues
Fana Hues is a young voice in the R&B community but she is no newcomer. She has put in years of work to refine her sound to be as amazing as it is. Her 2020 album Hues was one of our favorite projects of last year and had classic records all over it. The Southern California singer uses poetry and blends different instrumentals to make herself standout and her future is bright as can be.
11. Sin (feat. Jaden Smith) - Young Thug
There's really not much else to say about Thug that hasn't been said already. He bends words, he makes instrumentals his own, and he has changed hip hop music for the better. The legend grows every time and his EP On the Rvn was no exception. This track which sees him link with Jaden Smith is a perfect combination of the two styles. We hope 2021 is a big year for Thug.
12. Touch the Sky - Black Pumas
Black Pumas are having a moment. Hot off of having the best performance at The Grammys, the Austin, Texas act has garnered the attention of everyone who enjoys good music. The duo could be considered new age rock but that's too limiting for what their sound entails. They make soulful, real music that connects with anyone that listens. This track is one of our favorites off of their critically acclaimed album.
13. Craig - theMind
theMind is one of the most creative artists we have today. The Philly native has found his sound in Chicago and has collaborated with huge names already but is now out to make his name known in every corner of the industry. His 2020 album is a great way to do that with every song sounding so unique, he really never makes the same song twice. This track is a standout that shows his story telling skills and leaves you wanting more.
14. Kendrick's Theory - Junii
Junii is immensely talented and the world is starting to take notice. Her lyricism is unmatched and can't be compared to anyone in the game. Although her influences are easy to figure out, she has transformed her sound into something so new it keeps all of us entertained. Her delivery is so on point every word and syllable has a purpose. Her 2020 standout project Don't Stand Too Close, Vol. 1 has us so excited for volume 2.
15. Up North Trip - Mobb Deep
The New York legend that is Mobb Deep lives on forever. Havoc and the late Prodigy curved out a lane for themselves in the crowded space of 90s hip hop and will forever be known as one of the best duos to ever do it. The Infamous is essential listening for any fan of hip hop and it celebrated 25 years strong last year.
